An overgrown woodland with brambles and ivy was an unused corner of this property, but almost a third of the land. So, I needed to make it a viable part of the garden.

Paths laid around the wood, plus a central brick and flint circle with fire pit, created a reason to go into the woods year round; for a walk or to sit with the family. I commissioned curved oak benches to sit around the fire from Rodas Design.

Shade tolerant woodland perennials, ferns and blocks of Yew hedging make a robust but colourful planting in the dappled dry shade beneath the existing Ash, Field Maple and Oak trees.

New ornamental trees Acer griseum, Parrotia persica, Crataegus prunifolia and Cercis canadensis ‘Forest Pansy’ have been planted as an understory to the tall native trees.
